dsmISI MAGS for IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly TSM) enables daily backup and recovery
Bensheim, September 16th, 2015 – The new dsmISI MAGS software enables daily data backup and recovery in environments with IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly TSM). Concat AG and General Storage present this module at the TSM symposium in Dresden (Sept 22nd – 25th, 2015; booth number 3 + 4). With dsmISI MAGS, companies using Spectrum Protect can significantly accelerate the incremental backup and recovery times of large production file services for a wide range of NAS vendors like EMC, HDS, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, NetApp or Windows. This is now completed within hours instead of days or weeks. dsmISI MAGS is already deployed at major customers in Germany.
TSM is the only software capable of continuously backing up file systems entirely incrementally. With very large file systems that contain many millions or billions of objects, this approach does have its limits. Very often the time required by TSM for identifying changed, new or deleted objects takes days or even weeks. In such an environment daily backup cycles are impossible to achieve.
The dsmISI MAGS module, developed by General Storage, solves this problem by accelerating backup and restore processes. Implemented in a Spectrum Protect environment, dsmISI MAGS helps customers to optimise backup and recovery performance and to reduce complexity and operational costs.
With the software dsmISI MAGS, Concat and General Storage address companies with unstructured data (big data / file services), who have gained experience with the problem of the long runtime for file system scans prior to the actual incremental backup. According to leading analysts, unstructured data in companies’ IT is growing between 20 and 60 per cent per year … and counting.
